New fishery product health certificate introduced

European law has introduced a new fishery products health certificate. The certificate is to be used for imports into the EU of fishery products intended for human consumption from 26th November 2012.

Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 1012/2012 amends Regulation (EC) No 2074/2005 and provides a new model health certificate for imports into the EU of fishery products intended for human consumption. This replaces the previous model health certificate for fishery products. The Regulation makes changes to the animal health attestation of the certificate.

The amending regulations come into force on 26 November 2012. There is a transitional period set out in the legislation which means that consignments with the old style certificate as laid out in Regulation (EC) 1250/2008 can be imported into the EU provided that they reach their final destination before the 1 March 2013.

This change applies to fishery products and is not related to the certification changes that have been introduced under the law relating to composite POAO products.
