Brexit - HM Government Guidance - The fisheries sector and preparing for EU Exit

We have over 30 years experience handling frozen, chilled and ambient products and are experts in food commodities for both human and animal consumption.

2001 saw the advent of computerisation for declaring certain food products to Port Health through ‘TRACES’ which was consequently incorporated into our own operating procedures, in 2020 this system was replaced with 'IPAFFS'.

Today we handle:
  • All animal carcasses, cuts of meat and by products.
  • All fish, crustaceans, molluscs and by products.

We have established relationships with all UK BCPs (Border Control Posts) - Felixstowe, Thamesport, Tilbury, London Gateway, Southampton, Liverpool and are able to work through any BCP.

What can we do for you?

We help meat and fish importers and other shipping agents in the UK comply with the myriad of Port Health and Customs regulations surrounding these trades. We keep our customers fully informed throughout the clearance process and have flexible haulage in place to ensure that deliveries are effected as soon as Port Health release and Customs clearance are obtained.

Statutory Obligations

  • Notification of arrival must be made 24 hours prior to vessel arrival.
  • All details must be submitted to BCPs electronically using the IPAFFS system.
  • Each declaration will be issued with a control reference.
  • On receipt we then produce a physical CHED (Common Health Entry Document).
  • The CHED must be lodged with the authorities 24 hours before cargo arrival.
  • Every consignment must be available for physical examination.
  • Examination may be a physical check, an identity check or a seal check.
  • Documents required for presentation; Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Health Certificate, Catch Certificate (wild fish products) and Bill of Lading.
  • Any failure to comply with these statutory obligations may result in the cargo being refused entry into the UK. It is very important that those involved have a full understanding and experience of these requirements.

Meat Import Guidelines (all animal carcasses, cuts of meat and by products)

  • Documents to be presented; Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Health Certificate, CHED, Bill of Lading.
  • All meat products are subject to licence controls.
  • AGRIM licences are issued which give specific guidance of duty payable.
  • The UK applies differing levels of control depending on the country of origin. The level of control required for each country determines what documents must be presented.

Grange Shipping has a proven track record in supplying the high standards of service required by the Meat Trade.
