A leading UK supermarket has warned there are difficult times ahead for food importers to the UK when the Brexit rules change once again.

The new rules mean lorry drivers who import goods will need roughly 700 pages of documents. 

A letter to suppliers suggests UK and EU bodies are not yet ready for new documentation needed next month - this is when the grace period for import checks will end.

This change will only add more fuel to fire as the UK is already experiencing a shortage in lorry drivers. 

Currently, supermarkets that send products to Northern Ireland from Great Britain face only light-touch checks, under a so-called "grace period" which delayed some of the new post-Brexit processes.
